The Sons and the Daughters

1 - Dad's Not Lost

Lyrics:

( Words and Music by Tom Paxton,
copy right Paxworld Music)

Here we are in our car
We’ve been traveling ever so far
We’ve been circling round and round
Shall I tell you what we’ve found

Dad’s not lost, no he’s not
This is Daddy’s favorite spot
Right here by this same old tree
This is where he meant to be
Time and again this road we’ve crossed
We’re not worried, dad’s not lost

Down the lane and back again
Dad’s out standing in the rain
Rain is pouring down his face
Are we really anyplace?
(Chorus)

There’s a map on his lap
Dad keeps hitting it with his cap
What’s his song ever so strong
Daddy’s right and the map is wrong
(Chorus)

No one speaks, not a mouse speaks
Dad’s not been this mad for weeks
Don’t make a sound we’re turning around
We’re going back to the very same town

2 - Please Give Me Time

Lyrics:

( John Farrell/ Hope River Music)

As I sat at my desk I was listening
to each word that our teacher said
And when she asked us a question
the answer popped right in my head
My hand it shot up like a rocket,
my fingers they danced through the air
I felt really good until she called my name
And everyone started to stare

I forget, I forgot , I’m forgetful
But that doesn’t mean I don’t know
I’m just not as fast as some other kids
But that doesn’t mean that I’m slow
Now I’ve got some real good ideas
I had one a minute ago
Please give me time and remember
That everything takes time to grow

We went to the zoo on a field trip
We saw mammals and reptiles and birds
Our teacher asked “What is the difference?”
That’s easy, thought I , we just heard
So proudly I sent my arm flyin’
like a flag on a blustery day
She called my name and said, ”Speak loud
and clear,” and all of my thoughts flew away
( Chours)

This same kind of thing happened often
so I didn’t raise my hand anymore
And now when she asks us a question
I just sit and stare at the floor
Quite often I do know the answers
I’ve still got some real good ideas
I hope I can teach myself not to forget
I hope you can help me with my fears

I forget when I’m scared I‘m forgetful
but that doesn’t mean I don’t know
Asking me louder won’t help
I’m trying though it may not show
And I’ve still got some real good ideas
Some are just seeds that I’ve sown
Please give me time and remember
Everything takes time to grow
(Chorus)

3 - Open Up The Circle

Lyrics:

( John Farrell/ Hope River Music)

We have eyes so we can see
We have ears so we can hear
We have voices to sing our songs
We have arms for reaching out to hold each
other’s hearts

Let’s use our eyes to see what must be done
Let’s use our voices to sing a joyful song
Let’s use our ears to hear the cries of
those in need
Let’s open up the circle cause we’re all
one family

4 - Rock'N Roll For Mother Earth

Lyrics:

Let’s rock ‘n roll for Mother Earth
Let’s show her that we care
Let’s rock ‘n roll for Mother Earth
Let’s all do our share
Let’s work to keep our water clean
Let’s help clean up the air
Let’s rock and roll for Mother Earth
Let’s show her that we care

Let’s rock and roll for Mother Earth
Let’s show her that we care
Let’s use our hands to help the earth
Let’s all do our share
Let’s work to clean up litter, recycle
and repair
Let’s rock’ n and roll for Mother Earth
Let’s show her that we care

Let’s rock ‘n roll for Mother Earth
Let’s show her that we care
Let’s use our heads to help the earth
Let’s all do our share
Let’s preserve her treasures
So everyone can share
Let’s rock ‘n roll for Mother Earth
Let’s show her that we care
( Repeat first verse)

5 - The Sons And The Daughters

Lyrics:

(John Farrell/ Hope River Music)

We are the sons and the daughters
of the sons and the daughters
Of hope and fear, of joy and pain
Blown by the wind, tossed on the waters
Blessed by the sun and the rain

Kate and Thomas left from Ireland in 1864
Leaving family and the only life they’d known
Trading hunger for a promise
And sadness for a dream
The family tree they planted keeps on growing
(Chorus)

Anna crossed the great wide ocean
all alone at age sixteen
Not knowing if she ever would return
She didn’t speak their language,
she couldn’t write or read
But her faith and courage helped her
as she learned
( Chorus)

6 - Me Too!

Lyrics:

(John Farrell/ Hope Music)

The Snow Goose said
“I’m gonna take a little walk”
And that’s what he started to do
He walked and he walked and he walked
and he walked
And the Penguin said “ME Too!”
ME TOO! Bottun Dumdot and Deedot Undom”

The Snow goose said, “I’m gonna go for a swim”
And that’s what he started to
He swam and he swam and he swam
And he swam
And the Penguin said, “ME TOO!” ect.

The Snow goose sa9id,
“I’m gonna catch some fish” ect.

The Snow goose said,
“I’m gonna Learn to fly” ect.

The Penguin leaped right off of that cliff
But he fell right down, down, down down
The Snow Goose rescued his friend from his fall
And placed him gently back on the ground

The Snow Goose said “I’m gonna fly some more
I’m gonna soar out over the sea”
He flew and he flew and he flew and he flew
But the Penguin said “NOT ME!”

The Penguin learned a lesson that day
A lesson that was plain to see
Sometimes it’s best to just walk away
Shake your head and say,
“NOT ME!” ect.

7 - Courage

Lyrics:

Words and music by Bob Blue copyright 1998)

A small thing once happened at school
that brought up a question for me
And somehow it forced me to see
the price that I pay to be cool
Roxanne is a girl that I know, she’s strange,
like she doesn’t belong
I don’t mean to say that it’s wrong
we don’t like to be with her though
And when we all make a plan to have
this big party at Sue’s
Most kids in our school got the news
but no one invited Roxanne

The thing in our Junior High is
secrets don’t last very long
I acted like nothing was wrong
when I saw Roxanne start to cry
I know you may think that I’m cruel,
it doesn’t make me very proud
I just went along with the crowd,
it’s sad but you have to in school
You can’t pick the friends you prefer,
you fit in as well as you can
I couldn’t be friends with Roxanne
cause then they would treat me like her

In one class at our Junior High
we study what people have done
With gas chambers, tanks and guns at Auschwitz,
Bejing and My Lai
I don’t understand all I learn,
sometime I just sit there and cry
The whole world stood idly by
and watched as the innocents burned
Like robots obeying some rule,
atrocities done by the mob
All innocents doing their jobs and what was it for,
was it cool?

The world was aware of this hell but
not enough to cried out in shame
No heroes and no to blame
a story that no one dare tell
I promise to do what I canto let it happen again
To care for all women and men,
I’ll start by inviting Roxanne

8 - Little Bit of Light

Lyrics:

(Carol Johnson, Noeldner Music)

I’ve got some of the light in me
You’ve got some of the light in you
And a little bit of light from everyone
Is enough to see you through

I’ve got some of the hope in me
You’ve got some of the hope in you
And a little bit of hope from everyone
Is enough to see us through

I’ve got some of the love in me
You’ve got some of the love in you
And a little bit of love from everyone
A little bit of hope from everyone
A little bit of light from everyone
Is enough to see us through

There is nobody with a handle on it all
No one place the answers can be found
But everybody has a gift
that everyone can share
Put them all together we can
turn this world around
( Repeat the first three verses)

9 - Getting To Know You

Lyrics:

(Rodgers and Hammerstein, Williamson Music)

Getting to know you, getting to know all about you;
Getting to like you, getting to hope you like me.
Getting to know you, putting it my way but nicely.
You are precisely my cup of tea.

Getting to know you, getting to feel free and easy;
When I am with you, getting to know what to say.
Haven’t you noticed, suddenly I’m bright and breezy,
Because of all the beautiful, and new, things I’m learning about you,
Day by day.

Getting to know you, getting to know all about you;
Getting to like you, getting to hope you like me.
Getting to know you, putting it my way but nicely.
You are precisely my cup of tea.

Getting to know you, getting to feel free and easy;
When I am with you, getting to know what to say.
Haven’t you noticed, suddenly I’m bright and breezy,
Because of all the beautiful, and new, things I’m learning about you,
Day by day.

10 - Pass The Ball, Freddie

Lyrics:

(John Farrell /Hope River Music)

Freddie was by far the fastest kid on our whole team
He could shoot and he could score the very best of all
But he hollered at his teammates and he argued with
the ref. And he never, ever, ever passed the ball

Pass the ball Freddie you’ll find that it won’t hurt
Kid’ll pass it back that’s what makes a team work
Teamwork is an attitude it isn’t just a word
So pass the ball Freddie let’s make this team work

Daidle Deedle Didle Dodle Doodle Daidle Deedle Dum

Vicki has the sweetest voice in all of junior high
She sang the lead in every single play we’ve ever done
But she never once said thank-you
To the kids that sang the chorus
And she never, ever, ever sings for fun

Sing for fun Vickie, that’s what singing’s meant to be
If we sing together we can try some harmony
Teamwork is an attitude it isn’t just a word
so sing for fun Vicki, let’s make this team work

Leo is the smartest kid in Miss Spelling’s class
He speaks Japanese and Russian
but he never talks to us
He treats us like we’re babies
and he laughs at our ideas
And he never joins a group unless he absolutely must

Lighten up Leo
You’re not the only one
If we work together we can
learn and have some fun
Teamwork is an attitude
it isn’t just a word
So lighten up Leo let’s make this team work

Phyllis is an average kid,
not great at anything
but whenever you need help
Phyllis will be there

She treats you just the same if you
win or if you lose
She always tries her hardest and
she plays fair and square

Fair and square Phyllis
gives it everything she got
When she’s in the game and cheers
For others when she’s not
Team work is an attitude
it isn’t just a word
And Phyllis is a winner
cause she makes the team work

( repeat “Pass the ball Freddie” verse)

11 - Till The Morning Comes

Lyrics:

(John Farrell / Hope River Music)

The sun has set the day is done
Say good night to everyone
Close your eyes and rest awhile
Till the morning comes

Starlight, shining bright,
Here’s my wish for you tonight
Dreams of peace and harmony
Till the morning comes

You can go soaring like an eagle in the sky
Or diving like the whales and dolphins do
You can go anywhere, be anything you want
Knowing that I’ll be right there with you

Soon the birds will sing their songs
Telling you the night has gone
The sun will shine and so will you
When the morning comes
